AdvocacyIncredible Spirit!

April 06, 2017

I am Gayathri, a student of Union Christian college completing undergraduate degree in Economics. I think it's important for women to be a part of the socio-economic-cultural realms and embrace their own capabilities. Organisations like Scranton center mould young women into future leaders. I am glad to be part of this group and I would like to take up a profession where significant changes could be made and implemented. The inspiration of my poem is my mother. She has always been an energizing spirit in my life, making me think more about women's rights, freedom and motivating me to lead an independent life. 'Incredible spirit' is one written out to every woman across the world, who are solely fighting for a better world.

AdvocacyWhere I Am From

April 06, 2017

Hello everyone, I am Ruth Kause and I am Scranton Scholar from Indonesia. In this poem I would like to describe how grateful I am to have her as my mother. I do realized that we are not in a perfect mother-daughter relationship, yet every day at some point there are times that I could not draw in words how I feel like I am beyond blessed. She is not a perfect mother; however I can tell that she is always the best. She inspired me to be a great mom. She has been my biggest supporter in all the things I have done, in that way I always feel stronger for her prayer is never stop, and that is my strength. I could face anything ahead because I believe that God loves us. I do hope that we can always respect and love our mother for there is no one can change her role and position in our life. We will not see this beautiful world without our mother. Finally we should always remember where we all are from. Thank you.

My extracurricular activities include reading books, poetry writing, gardening and essay writing. In future, I want to become a college lecturer cum writer. Scranton Women's Leadership Center (SWLC) is providing wide variety of opportunities for young women. I am also proud to be a Scranton scholar. Here, I am making use of this opportunity of campaign for International Women's Day with pleasure. I have captured some pictures of my teacher. Her name is Nino Baby. I know her for 5 years. She is a woman with unique qualities. Her character had influenced me a lot. I had prepared a short poem for her.

AdvocacySeeds of Hope and Happiness

March 28, 2017

Hi everyone, my name is Dewi Hindra Wijaya from Indonesia. Currently, I study in graduate level, my major is civil engineering.  Its an honor for me  to share my thought with you all. First of all, I want to express my gratitude to Scranton, because she gives  me and us  a precious oppurtunity to study until this time. I arrange word “SCRANTON”  in every first letter in each sentece.  Scranton makes many women smile and feels happy. Many women can not pursue higher degree, because she must married early, work to fulfill her needs, has not enough money, etc.  Personally, I admire her.  Althought today, we live in modern era, but there are many problem in this world, such as poverty, hunger, violence, harmful situation, individualism, egoism, etc. Maybe we are not government who can make regulation or power to solve it. Just like a Mary F Scranton, who wants to help woman in Korea. We can do it too. As a  human in this world, we can help others with many kinds of simple things. For example, we can share our story or experience, smiling to help them get their smile, helping others when they get difficulties, praying  for them, getting together to help each other or just becoming a good listener.  Let’s smile and making impact together!

AdvocacyStories and Strikes

AdvocacyThe Windows of Great Souls

March 17, 2017

Hi, everyone, my name is Pricillia Chandra. I am a former Scranton Scholar and now I am working as an Elementary teacher. Empowering girls, especially my students, is my dream since I was a child. That is because since I was a child, my grandmother told me not to pursue high education since it would be an obstacle to find partner for life (read: husband). However, my heart told me that it was not right. I was free to set my goal. Thus, I keep studying and studying until I got my master degree already.    In this poem, I use my eyes and my student's eyes to symbolize our souls. The souls that should be free from any kind of imprisonment.    I hope that it will bless you in some ways.    Love, Pricil.

Today, we want to share the Korean Poem: Mother with you, celebrating the International Women's Day. Mother is not only a weak present but also strong. If you look her back, even though her body becomes bent with hard workings, she always devoted herself to family. I think you will know that how much your mother has tried hard for you and your family. Your mother is also a woman before your mother. Would not it be worth more of her life and dedication to abandoning all the external beauty for her family? What about saying ‘thank you’ to your mother today to express your thankfulness for her?

AdvocacyEyes That Speak

March 13, 2017

Hello! I am Wennie Jane Ganancial, a former Scranton Scholar from the Philippines. I am a woman who believes that our eyes are very powerful. They express something beyond what our mouth can speak. Some will believe in the smile of your face but others will also see the pain in them. What you hide in your heart can be read in your eyes.I was raised in a society where violence in women is very prevalent. Their vulnerability is being abused. Increasing cases of not just physical but verbal mistreatment are very frequent. That was not supposed to be.Don’t let them see just you but your strength. Be dauntless. Those eyes were not made for tears, but to shine in vigor and cheerfulness. Let God use you and your life to influence others that they may see the goodness life has to offer.Knowing our worth as a woman enables us to surmount every hurdle that comes our way, allowing us to live up to our God-given potential. Believe in yourself when no one else does. God made women fearfully and wonderfully. Those eyes have stories to tell. Let it glow and see the best in you and in others as well. Regardless of who you are and where you are from, you are precious as a pearl and beautiful as a flower. You deserve to love and to be loved. Be reminded of that. ?

AdvocacyA feather of Hope

March 09, 2017

Hello everyone! I am Chloe Yewon Park, an intern of Scranton Women’s Leadership Center. It is a precious chance for me to share what I though with you all! First of all, you can see that I wrote WOMAN in every first letter in each sentence. I wanted to express the WOMAN itself by doing this. There are still many women who are in dark side. I saw the story that there are lots of girls in the world who are in early marriage because of the money. After early marriage, they are in danger of violence, sexual assault, and the infection of the sexual disease. Especially for young female refugees, they escaped their countries due to the female circumcision which causes them to die. This kind of situation is truly unfamiliar with me because I do not suffer it. However, if they have suffered that kind of situation because they are woman, this is not their own problem. It is our matter to be changed. The reason why I wanted to share this is to share that we still have lots work for woman’s right. Yes, I know woman is sometimes weak. However, if we get together, we can be powerful and make change. Let’s break our eggs! Let’s follow the light! Let’s be the hope together!
